Day 6 – On Keeping The Promise

Scripture: Genesis 18:16-19
Suggested Song: How Great Is Our God

Preparation for Family Worship:
God’s plan for Abraham was to, through his child, advance His kingdom. This was a great task for Abraham and required great faith. that is why the Text says “Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness.” It was not merely a faith that had no teeth. The promise of God was God’s sovereign plan, but included Abraham’s faithfulness. How can this be? How can God plan a plan from eternity and include man’s faithfulness? In verse 19 of our text it says “I have chosen him”. Gods plan for His people in Christ, all His people in Christ, is holiness. In Eph. 1:4 it says “Even as He chose us in Him before the foundations of the world that we should be holy and blameless.” God’s election of Abraham included Abraham’s faithfulness in commanding his children in the ways of God. If you have been chosen by God than you have also been elected to a family. God requires our faithfulness to command our families in His word.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why did God inform Abraham about His plans for Sodom?
  2. What did God require of Abraham?
  3. What was promised to Abraham?

Pray for faithfulness in doing righteousness. “The one who endures to the end will be saved”.
