Scripture: Genesis 22:1-2
Suggested Song: It Is Well
Preparation for Family Worship:
We cannot know the depth of our faith until it is tested. A few days ago our text said “Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Abraham believed the promise of God to make him a great nation through his own offspring. God gave Abraham a son, Isaac, and now God has called Abraham to test him in his faith. James says that the testing of our faith produces perseverance. There are so many people who come to church and make professions of faith, then a year later they are nowhere to be found. Their profession is revealed to simply be hot air. This revelation comes through the testing of our faith. Matt. 24:13 says “the one who endures to the end will be saved.” God called Abraham to take his son, his only son whom he loved and kill him to reveal his faith. Abraham took Isaac to the altar. Are you willing to give your children wholly to the will of God? Are you willing to give yourself wholly to the will of God?
- Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son?
- What does what Abraham did reveal about his faith?
- Did God let Abraham kill Isaac?
Ask God to give you faith and faithfulness like Abraham.
